Please join us in supporting University of Montana students aspiring to become speech-language pathologists! The SLP General Scholarship Fund was started in 2021 in response to the increasing need for scholarship opportunities to support SLP graduate students. These students have limited time to work outside of their heavy load of academics and clinical practicums.
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are healthcare professionals who work with people of all ages, from babies to adults, to assess and treat many types of communication and swallowing disorders. SLPs can serve in a wide variety of settings such as hospitals, schools, skilled-nursing facilities, in-home care, universities, and private practice. The path to becoming a SLP is a 6-to-7-year commitment that includes two years of rigorous academic and clinical training to obtain a master’s degree, such as the one offered through the University of Montana’s School of Speech, Language, Hearing, & Occupational Sciences (SLHOS).
SLHOS’s highly competitive SLP graduate program attracts over 300 applicants from across the United States and Canada and accepts 35 each year! These graduate students receive hands-on, supervised training while working with clients in our on-campus DeWit RiteCare Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic.
The DeWit RiteCare Clinic is committed to providing student training and services for speech, language and literacy, cognition, swallowing, and hearing; locally, globally, and to people across the lifespan. We believe that every individual should have access to high-quality care; therefore our clients are served regardless of financial, geographic, or physical barriers. Our highly committed and dedicated graduate student clinicians and clinical faculty serve many in need through traditional interventions and specialty programs such as the Big Sky Aphasia Program (BSAP) and specialized autism programs.
Your gift will support graduate students on their path to rich and rewarding service careers while alleviating financial barriers. In turn, you are supporting many clients our graduate students serve at the DeWit RiteCare Clinic.
Please contribute to our Speech Language Pathology Student Scholarship Fund to support our hard-working, committed graduate students and the people they serve!
