Brant Light Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Law

Please join us in giving to a new endowed scholarship for University of Montana law students in honor of our brother, Brant Light, who passed away on December 24th, 2020.

Brant graduated from the University of Montana Law School in 1986 and embarked on a 34 year career of exemplary service to his community and to the State of Montana.

Brant was a mentor to those he worked with as the County Attorney in the Great Falls County Attorney’s office, as an elected Justice Court Judge and in his last position as Chief Prosecutor at Montana Attorney General’s Office. He expanded on an annual continuing education program for prosecutors throughout the state with an updated workshop/retreat with renowned US lawmakers as speakers that helped improve their practice of delivering justice for the people of Montana.

Brant will be remembered as a champion to victims of crimes and to their families. He worked tirelessly and even through rounds of chemotherapy to secure a conviction and adequate sentence for the accused. He earned awards from his community for his pro bono work and encouraged his interns and team members to also be involved in service.

To continue Brant’s legacy of service, the new Brant Light Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Law will be given to University of Montana law students who demonstrate a commitment to pro bono service and who have financial need.

Your gift to the scholarship will be received and invested by the University of Montana Foundation. Your gift is tax-deductible, and you will receive a tax receipt letter from the UM Foundation for your gift.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating our brother Brant’s life and continuing his legacy by supporting law students for many years to come.
